Keynote speaker Dr. Matthias Corion
Topic
Overview of the current status of in ovo sexing technologies in the laying hen industry
Introduction
Matthias Corion is a postdoctoral researcher at KU Leuven in Belgium and is affiliated with the NAMES Lab in the Department of Biosystems. His current research uses integrated multi-omics approaches to study host–microbiota interactions and identify biomarkers of gut health in pigs and poultry.
He obtained his PhD in Bioscience Engineering at KU Leuven, where his doctoral research focused on the development of non-invasive technologies for in ovo sex determination in poultry, including volatile organic compound profiling and biophotonic approaches. He has since contributed to the broader discussion on in ovo sexing through scientific publications, review and white papers, presentations at scientific conferences and symposia, and interactions with policymakers.
At the IFRG meeting, he will present an overview of the current status of in ovo sexing technologies in the laying hen industry, with particular attention to commercially available and emerging techniques, practical implementation in hatchery settings, the legislative context in different countries, and the ongoing scientific debate surrounding embryonic development and pain perception.
