Glenn K. Baggott (1948 - 2024)

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Glenn Baggott on 11 July 2024. Glenn died of Pneumonia secondary to
Parkinson’s disease at Barnet Hospital in North London, close to his home in Edgware.

Glenn was very much involved with the growth and development of the IFRG from the mid-1980s onwards, regularly presenting papers, organizing meetings, managing the IFRG website, and between 1998 -2009 chairing the IFRG. During Glenn’s chairmanship, the group changed from the Incubation Research Group, a small annual meeting based in the UK, to become the WPSA Working Group 6 Incubation and Fertility Research Group holding very much expanded meetings all over Europe. Although the onset of Parkinson’s disease prevented Glenn have a direct involvement in the IFRG from the mid 2010s, he still continued to manage the group’s website until his death.

Glenn was a Lecturer in Zoology at the University of London, Birkbeck College and taught Biology and Physiology. His research interests were very much focused on respiratory physiology of bird embryos, embryo development and natural incubation of Mandarin Ducks. Many of his and his PhD students' papers presented at the IFRG covered these topics and also his many publications. Glenn was not only a Zoologist, but worked on IT support for PCR analysis. In addition to Glenn’s involvement with the IFRG, he was also a British Poultry Science sub-editor for many years, retiring in 2020.

Our condolences go out to Patricia, Glenn’s wife, and his four children, Richard, Robin, Joey and Laura and his three grandchildren.
