Topic; SPIDES - Turning Science into Practice
Dinah Nicholson started working for Aviagen (then Ross Breeders) in 1985, after completing a degree in Agriculture at Reading University and a PhD in Agricultural Science at Nottingham University.
During her early career with Ross Dinah managed parent stock and broiler trials investigating the interaction between genetics and environment of Aviagen and competitor lines. She then worked with Aviagen GP production staff to improve egg handling, disinfection, and storage.
Moving to a technical service role in 1995, Dinah supplied specialist hatchery and broiler management support to Aviagen customers in the UK and Europe before moving to a position where she directed and coordinated the Aviagen technical teams operating across Europe. In 2008 Dinah took on a completely new role, with the remit of enhancing the specialist support Aviagen offered for incubation and hatcheries globally. She built a strong team of hatchery specialists delivering field support, hatchery technical literature, incubation trials, and hatchery training globally.
In 2023, with travel made increasingly difficult by arthritis, Dinah has stepped back from her role leading the hatchery specialist team. She now focuses on organizing hatchery training, producing technical literature, and initiating and supporting incubation trials.
Dinah retired from working for Aviagen at the end of August 2024
